i've noticed that this forum, doesn't seem to use the like function nearly as much as some of my other forums, running similar software.
on one in particular, anytime you post something that someone finds useful or helpful, or something funny, or a post they agree with, they like it. heck, sometimes people like a post, just to essentially thank you for participating in a conversation.
your profile, under your avatar, then shows not only your likes received, but your likes given.
kinda shows how much you participate.
obviously, it doesnt show the quality of your participation. but it at least shows that you have been around a while, and contribute SOMETHING that other people appreciate. your likes given shows how much you appreciate others in return.
for instance, when i see a person who has 2000 likes received, but only 10 likes given... well, thats someone that isnt very thankful
or, someone who has 2000 likes given, but only 200 received... they don't post much useful stuff.
of course, we sometimes look at post to like ratio also. that gives you an idea of whether someones involvement ishelpful, or if they are just a post whore.
on that particular board i have... 4,918 posts. 21,576 likes given. and i've received 25,167 thanks in 4,465 posts.
so i have an average of 5.6 thanks per post on posts that received thanks. but i clearly have 453 posts, that not a single person felt like thanking.
i'd call that a pretty good ratio. i'm probably as popular as lightspeed.
excuse me while i take a mirror break.
