I had seen two hawk nest a mile from my house, and wanted to check them out and see if I could get some okay shots. C&C welcome, But remember I am shooting with a 70-300mm 4-5.6f lens, so I am limited.

This is the first hawk nest. she never landed on the nest, but I have seen her there before when I drive past.

I went to the second nest, it is nearly 1/2 mile down the road, so I walked.
I got close enough for some photos, and IT IS NOT A HAWK NEST!!!!:aiwebs_016: Check it out!:1219:

I never thought it would be owls!:icon_cheers:

How adorable! I feel your pain with the limited lens. I'm in the same boat with a 55-250mm T3i. Times like this you really wish you had something better.

I am shooting on a T3i. :) A 600mm would be perfect! :)

Nice find. Now go up there and grab some close ups.

How in the heck am I supposed to get close ups???? That is as close as my lens gets, and if I get any closer to the tree I will not be able to see the owls. the nest is 60+ foot up there.

It's very simple. Call your buddy Rick and convince him that he needs to call your friend T.C. and convince T.C. to let you borrow his helicopter. Naturally you can't call T.C. directly because you owe him too much money and he won't go for it unless you get Rick to speak for you first.

You'll probably end up having to do some really complicated favor for Rick first, but in the end you'll be able to get T.C. to use his helicopter to fly you around.

Hmm... you know on second thought I might be confusing real life with re-runs of Magnum P.I. again...

80 foot ladder. :)

I just bought a really good safety harness a few weeks ago, so I can just hang from the chopper! :) That will work great, thanks for the idea!:biggrin-93:

Hey no problem. Just don't let T.C. give you too much grief about the last time you went up and somebody put bullet holes in his chopper. He harps on that way, way too much IMHO. Lol

80 foot ladder. :)

I can see it now, I am at the top of a 80' ladder, when all the sudden the mother owl comes out of nowhere, and off I go! However, the photos I get of the mother owl as I am plummeting to the ground will be great!

I didn't mean to! I thought the gun was on safety! Will anyone ever let that go!!!

I am so incredibly jealous of you right now. What a fantastic find! No chance you're in ontario are you? So I can show up in your neighbourhood and FINALLY see an owl?

Yes, there is no doubt you will get dive bombed, wear your helmet and spectra vest with thick leather jacket. Now, cowboy up and get up there, no one said this photography thing would be easy!

Kansas is a little drive for you, but if you are ever around, let me know and I will find you an owl! :)
