Looks Like Rain

I purchased my first DSLR in May of this year, and was more than anxious to start taking photos of my friends. These images were taken about two weeks after I bought my camera. The first two images were what I had originally done with the photos and the third image is what I created last night with the original RAW files.

I'd never used a SLR camera before and I had no experience with Adobe Lightroom. I'm aware of the slight flaws in composition and clarity... However, I'm hoping the images pop a bit more now. I also removed a few of the more distracting elements.

Let me know what you guys think.

1. Don't block her face. There really isn't a "subject" in this photo because the umbrellas are 99% out of the picture and her arm is covering her face.

2. A little overboard on the post process. Too much contrast to the point where her brown hair is black. ( I see that 2 & 4 are the same - #4 looks too "picnik-y". )

Composition could use some work. Step back and get a full body shot of her on the tracks with the the umbrellas.

And on an unrelated note, stay away from train tracks, I just saw the movie "Unstoppable." :shock:

I think you should have got more of her face, especially her eyes.

yes back away from her and get some full body shots. i like the idea though.

I did include full body shots in the set.

I was more interested in critique on processing rather than composition. As I stated in the original post, these shots were taken about two weeks after I started with photography, I'm already aware of any composition issues.

The processing is too extreme for my taste; you have blown sky, over-bright forearms and no detail in the shirt. Given the dynamic range between very bright, white sky and dark clothing, this is going to be a tough one to get right in the camera. If it's not right in the camera, you're going to be limited in what you can do in post.
