I am guessing Canon's "Live View" allow the screen to be used for focussing like that of P&S? I do not have that on my 30D so not sure what "Live View" does

Unless you have "Live View", you will find hand holding macro shots "challenging".

Successful shots I take have better IQ then what you have, but I get maybe one good shot out of 10 attempts - very nerve racking. I.E. upgrading to DSLR may not be solution.
