A portrait this time :thumbup:

I took this photograph in my cousin's baptism, with natural light. I think the expression and the light are the strong points of this photo. On the downside, I wish that the eye had been with another definition and a little more light

There is a lot of dead space on the left... Shooting vertically (portrait) would have been recommended. The highlights on the child's face are very bright.. almost blown. The hair blends into the dark, and loses detail. The expression on the child's face could be a smile (for him), but to someone that doesn't know him, it is not that obvious. There is little to interest the average viewer. The strong extreme contrast basically kills the photo.

If all the portraits follow the rule of being vertical, I think we fall into a monotony and tried to break it a bit...

Maybe.. you might get away with breaking one of the basic guidelines... but not several! We hear that line all the time.. usually from people who have not been shooting long.

I am on a calibrated IPS monitor... they are blown! lol! Do you calibrate your monitor? You might consider it!

It is noticeable that the child is smiling? I did not realize it, because what I highlighted in the photo was the smile

It could be a grimace, or a grin.. shot at that angle, it is hard to tell.

The face may be of anybody should be well defined....eyes and lips are most important and they are not well defined....the child and female photography need soft focus....tonal range of face is too white. The caption writing (jpg) is making the frame more large, mixing in black bg......Portraits are made both horizontally and vertically. the pic is too tightly framed....use of reflector and taking it one stop down wud hv helped with tones on the face, taking pic a bit more to right.

I don't have any problem if someone (like you did :thumbup tell me "hey this is wrong...you need to get better at this point..." I want to grow and learn more about photography, and i know i make mistakes and some of them the big ones :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

For example, with your comment i look at the picture by another way! The point of, if the child is or not smiling, i haven't noticed that detail...it's all about listening other opinions and i don't have any problem listen to a critical
