What's new

Meet Enzo C&C please!

It's a GREAT place to learn about which breeders are awesome and which to stay away from. =)

Yes...should I be shooting in RAW even if I don't have any PP software on my computer right now??

Personally, I'd get software that handles RAW files ASAP. For the mean time, you have a setting in camera that turns up the saturation on your jpegs. I am positive that it is turned on in your camera. It makes them look nuclear. I'd try changing it to the default setting and working from there.

I'm telling you guys...the saturation isn't all turned up in these pics. It's tweaked BARELY up in those first 5 pics. lol I included pics where it wasn't tweaked up at all. I wish you could just come see my backyard and my dog in the sun. That's what he looks like. When the sun hits his fur, he's just orange....like the color of a brand new penny.

I used to have PS on this computer but the computer crashed and I couldn't put the PS back on here, since it was from a friend's disk. But I have someone else who is going to let me use their PS on my computer. I just don't have it on here yet. Right now, I don't want my main concern to be doing PP to the photos...I'm just trying to learn the settings on my camera. The whole ISO, aperture, shutter speed thing is SO new to me and I have no idea what I'm doing. I was looking moreso for criticism on those things in these pictures, since I took all of the pictures with the manual settings. Did you see the pictures I included where the saturation wasn't turned up at all?? There's barely a difference between the two.

That's because the saturation is turned up via a camera setting. I UNDERSTAND that you're not bumping the saturation in post processing, I never said you were.

Contrast: Normal
Saturation: High
Sharpening: Hard

Go to that page, and hit CTRL(CMD)+F and then type "Saturation". Allow me to reiterate, it's an IN CAMERA setting.

Sammie, the JPEG is processed on camera. I can make my camera take black and white with JPEG, it doesnt mean the world is black and white. You might also have the white balance too warm.

I'm looking at my in camera settings and it still doesn't show the saturation turned up. That's what I've been trying to tell you. So, now I'm just confused. It has a little slider with a zero in the middle. You can go 3 clicks to the right or 3 clicks to the left. Right now, my saturation is at only 1 click to the right. In some of those pictures (#'s 6 and 7), it was at zero. Is there something wrong with my menu, then?? :(

I'm guessing it's probably user error. But I don't shoot Nikon.

I don't have a Nikon either so I'm not familiar with the settings but I do know on my Canon there is a mode that you can set for vivid greens and blues.... I think this is what o hey tyler is talking about.... it is CA mode on my Canon and you have to switch it over in the settings part but I can defititely tell what they are saying... My grass comes out like that too if I use that setting...But I LOVE the first pic tho! I wish I could get good ones of my dog! lol

Thanks, amandalee! I figured out where to change the "vivid" setting. Besides saturation and cropping, does anybody have any other pointers?? Thanks in advance!

yes, show 1 or 2 pictures, the best ones.
Showing 5 or 6 pictures that are damn close to the same just means your comments are diluted.

Awww Enzo is so gorgeous! I find myself becoming an expert animal photographer.. it's an easy thing to do when you are trying to learn about your camera and don't have any other subjects :P

Thanks, Lindz...it's nice to have someone give a positive comment for once. =)

Sammie_Lou,

You may not be aware of this but an overwhelming love for your subject is not a positive thing when you are trying to become a better photographer. That's because you are non-objective about your pictures. Just like any 'mommy' you are perfectly happy to take, see and show multiple pictures without much of a critical eye because you love the subject.

On the other hand, most of us care zero about your dog/baby/cat/spouse and only want to see a good picture.

From your responses to the comments above, you seem to know very little about the basics of photography and you won't learn all of what you need to know from your camera manual. I suggest you get a good book on exposure and composition and apply that to your efforts.

I know that I know very little about photography...which is why I posted here. I came here to learn. But just telling me to post less pics didn't help me out in ANY way. THAT'S what I mean by "it's nice to have a positive comment". A lot of posts that I've seen here receive comments that are just downright mean and not helpful in any way. If you want to say a pictures sucks, say a pictures sucks...but then tell someone what you would do to make it better. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is the key. No one is going to learn anything if all you do is leave mean comments without telling them what exactly is wrong with the photo.

You can't learn everything from comments on web sites. You absolutely need to learn the vocabulary of photography before you can understand what people say.
You need to get some actual knowledge from some concentrated source like books. Other wise you will progress very slowly and, quite possibly, badly.

I told you to post fewer so that people will look at one picture and tell you what is wrong or right with it. Having lots of pictures means that the comments are spread out and aren't as meaningful.

Get a book or two, read it, come back with a couple of your best pictures and ask for comments.

BTW, my comments aren't mean just because they aren't hollow attaboys, they are absolutely straightforward truth as I see it.
