For those who are newer, keep in mind that this is a photography forum and you're posting in one of the many areas in the site dedicated to people who are looking for critique on how the picture can be a better picture.

That means that, by and large, people aren't going to look and go "awwww so cute!", they sometimes won't even see that. They will see your pic and say "Hmm, white balance is off... the horizon is off slightly... you could frame this a little differently to get an interesting effect... there's a lot of dead space you may want to cut out..." etc.

If you're not looking for that, then really... posting here isn't the best idea. Where you really should post is in the "Just for Fun" section or something like that. There people generally just go "awwww! cute!"

Sure, Chris' response was a bit snarky... but it wasn't totally out of line given the nature of what this area is intended for.

I disagree. He was way out of line. There was no critiquing in his response what so ever. Not a shred! Matter of fact it was a brutal response to a picture. I am not sure LAME is in any photography glossary! Not so bad if he just said lame to the play on words (joke). But he added the comment about a lame picture. That is flat out uncalled for. LAME helps no one, critiquing or other wise! Especially when it involves someones family! Picture of a weed, maybe. A little girl. Way out of line!!!

This is the beginners forum! Pics like that are going to come up. People have different senses of humor. This post was obviously a play on words. Most people know that people are not going to post pics of their wives on here undressing, especially in the beginners forum.

And since it seems lately I have been very vocal on some issues that others agree or disagree on. They can or may have already blocked me. He was way out of line. I may be out of line on my assesment, but being the one to have that opinion, I am not going to tell myself that.

Just for the record-sorry for stirring up a bee's nest.. My only misunderstanding is that I thought you could simply share and, if you chose to, ask for critique. I know it's just a snapshot, not framed beautifully, etc., but I love snapshots because they capture the moment, and they're spontaneous. No hard feelings, and I look forward to your critiques in the future.

The problem I have is he did not critique the photo. It may not be an award winner or one to put in a porfolio. But it is a perfectly fine picture. Matter of fact it's a pretty good pic to have with his word play.

Now if he had said the dof could have been better, or composition, or anything about the pic. I would not have a problem. But he flat out said LAME picture. I don't ever remember even seeing that statement in the "good" picture posting fourms when someone is asking for critical comments on, one's that definately should not have been there. Let alone saying that in the beginner forum!

just for the record, LAME is a critique.. its a personal opinion... this forum is not a place to put your "cute pics" its a place to learn... you post pictures that can be critiqued, just because you didn't like the bluntness of my critique, doesnt make it wrong... you say its a good pic, I say its a snapshot, which I don't like... its a personal opinion, and I'm entitled to it, just like your entitled to say its a nice pic.. if your into snapshots, way to go, get a P&S camera and snap away... this forum is for people who want to learn how to improve, and posting snapshots of your kid isnt going to help you improve.

sorry if i upset you.. I just get tired of people not understanding the purpose of this forum... getting so tired of puppies, flowers and babies (in snap shots) you can very easily take a picture of a baby from snap to proper photo by simple composition... thinking about your background, and not just saying "OH THATS CUTE.." yes for you, its cute, your kid took her shirt of and it got stuck on her head, my first is due in less than 2 weeks... I'm sure my wife and I will go CRAZY taking pictures of him... but I won't post "cute" pictures on here, unless they are pictures I put thought into..."cute" pictures are for family and friends... send them to the grand parents, send them to your best friends... but frankly I don't care... put it in the just for fun section of this forum

Your are absolutely correct. I was not saying your wrong.

What I am saying is the OP didn't ask for critical comments (not the forum for that either). And yet Chris took the effort to go beyond CC. I have never seen LAME used for CC in pictures posted in the "good" forums. One's that obviously don't even come close to being in there. And yet he chose to use it here?

If any part of this entire site someone should be cordial in their comments beside maybe the welcome forum. Is the beginners forum! It is not the place for rude comments. They obvously hurt the OP, going by his initial replies. And who could blame him, that his little girl in the pic. I am sure Chris would have been upset the same way if someone attacked one of his precious shots as well. I could live with the first lame comment. But when he flat out said LAME picture, that set me off (I don't have any kids either).

Sorry, I will stop dragging this on.

i think you have me blocked, so this may be pointless... I actually wouldnt be upset if someone attacked one of my pictures, first off, I wouldnt post a picture like this.. second off, any pics i have posted here, I'm said "give it to me straight" because I don't want people to puff me up when I shouldnt be... and I believe in the same.. if the picture isn't good (compositionally) i'm not going to say it is.. I already stated that "yes, your kid is cute".. which in reality is all the OP wanted... but picture wise, its not a good picture, its a "cute" picture

Agreed. Also next time why not title your thread appropriately too instead of trying to trick people into thinking it's some sexy shot? I'm sorry but there is a lot of that going on around here and personally I find it really annoying. It's especially creepy when it turns out to actually be a baby IMO.

me thinks this was a lame attempt to get people to look at the picture... the lame picture..

Firstly you are contradicting yourself and secondly you are not using this section as described. Instead you have started with a blunt insult and gone on to turn this thread into some sort of personal campaign - let it end Chris.
Constructive and educational critique is not a simple "lame" comment that says nothing but your (rather blunt and impolite) viewpoint and goes nowhere to explaining that viewpoint nor how to adjust the image or shooting to improve.

IMO this "quite a lot" going on recently has been from a single member inthe last 2 days - posting something like 28 threads of which the only content is a single photo - often with missleading titles.
Its not respresentative of the site
