Here is a pic of a neat looking horse What looks good / bad ?

Exposure looks good, but there appears to be another small horse growing out of the side of the bigger horse's head... Might want to call the vet & have that looked at.

The two main points (excess space at the top and awkward composition with respect to the other horse) have already been mentioned, also consider using longer lenses and larger apertures to achieve a shallower DoF and better isolate the subject from the background.

Yeah pretty horse, but i agree with what everyone else has said, would have been nicer without the background horse and a shollower DOF

Shallower DOF = Smaller Number of f/stop. Larger (higher) numbers will increase DOF.

Don't forget that focal point distance, lens focal length, and background distance from the focal point will also substantially affect the DOF.

Aperture f/stops are fractions, so, a large aperture is actually a larger number.
