I'm having a blast playing with PSE but I have a question that I haven't found the answer to yet...

When I cut out a selection from one image and paste it into another image...how do I feather/smooth/soften the edges so that the pasted image better blends into the new background?

Have you tried the blur tool? Set at about 30-40% opacity, run it around the edges once.

A better way, imo, is to place the images on separate layers. Add a layer mask to the one on top (which should be just the section you want to add to the other photo) and then paint out the parts you don't want to show in the final picture. You can play with the opacity of the brush around the edges to make the pics blend.
