My Dad's Shed

Staying back at my parents house for a couple of weeks and took this out in my Dad's shed. It's a dusty old shed and it's full of crap, and it gets the evening sunlight shining through it nicely

Any C&C or suggestions on how I could retake it better in the next two days before I leave?

Absolutely.

Not the HDR in the sense of grotesque coloration but just the HDR of wide range of exposures and merging them
I would try keeping the outside sort of blown out and more detail inside; that gives the feel that I think you're going for.
Even just a bit of editing of this produces an image with more detail and depth.

Hi Lew - thanks for the edit and your thoughts there. At first I wasn't convinced - I was quite a fan of the dark look (I actually bumped up the blacks and the contrast a fair bit in lightroom to achieve this effect), but the more I look at your edit the more I like it over mine.

I really like both edits. The original is more moody, while the re-work allows one to wander around the scene. I think my preference would be an edit somewhere in between these two.

you without doubt captured the rustic and dusty, the only thing I can add is I wish there was more shed in the frame and less light outdoors but it's a minor grievance
