My bedroom some good natural light so I sat my daughter on top of my bed and took a few shots. Made a rookie mistake and didn't notice how distracting the door knob on the closet door would be. I cloned it out but now I also feel it looks un-natural....not sure which is worse?! In the family pic I have blown highlights on my daughter's dress (boo) but besides that how does it look? Is the pose okay?

Thanks!

Great lighting! I would actually try and get rid of the door altogether.

Thanks! I would love to get rid of the door all together, but I'm afraid my photoshop skills aren't quite on that level yet haha.

Mia on the bed should be redone. The light seems oddly too low. Not flattering. Watch the background, poses are very nice!
Family group is informal, but for this much difference in height, it doesn't look good. Maybe have the man hold the child up so all the faces are closer together. The background is doing you no favors.
Bathtime wrap portrait is very nice!

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not quite sure how to go about redoing the images on the bed (not sure what adjustments to make) but I'll experiment with them again.

In the family pic, I held my daughter at first and it looked awkward, although it would've been less awkward if it weren't a full body shot I guess. I will definitely attempt to get faces closer together next time! Also, we wanted it in front of our house....hence the background. Would it have been better if it weren't so close up....like showing more of the house?

I assume that you took those photos natural light?

The blanket is acting as a reflector, and that's why it looks like the light is coming from below, because you don't have anything coming from above to help balance out those shadows.

I would have had a reflector maybe over top of her to help bounce back down some of the light. I don't know how that would look... I've never done it before, but that's where I would've started. :sillysmi:

The poses are fine. Raise the light up some. Move the child or yourself to avoid the door or anything else in the background.

Yes, natural light. Now I see what you mean about the blanket acting as a reflector. This is helpful, thank you!

I will definitely be more careful next time!

I just went back to look at the bed shots again and I think part of the problem was my post processing. I added contrast and other things that I think ended up making the background look darker than it was. This shot is closer to the original shot….is this better?

Your processing was fine. It doesn't change the direction the light is coming from. :)

You are right! But I was thinking what I did made the background even darker and exaggerated the problem?

Here's another quick take but I'm not sure it looks that much better.

Like I said, your original post was fine as far as processing is concerned.

Just keep in mind the light next time you're shooting.

Even if you're shooting natural light, you have to pay attention to where it's coming from and how it's hitting your subject and it doesn't mean you can't manipulate the light if need be. :sillysmi:
