My son - C&C Welcome and Appreciated

I am very, very new to the "technical" world of photography and would love to post a few pictures I've taken with my previous DSLR (Nikon D40) to give me a jumping point in what to work on now that my new one has arrived (Nikon D5100). Any C&C is welcome as I know these will need tons! I just want to learn and grow and understand what I do wrong so that I can correct it. Thank you.

C&C per req:

1. Not bad; I would crop the blown highlights at the very top as they draw the eye from the subject, and a little bit of the RH side to move him away from dead centre. Your camera's meter was "fooled" by the strong light from above and has under-exposed him slightly, but that is easily corrected in post.

2. Cute, but verging on 'snapshot'. His eyes are very dark; fill light (flash or reflector) would have helped greatly ehre, and you've cropped a finger on his right hand. NEVER crop little bits of limbs.

3. Pretty much snapshot IMO. You've used your fill-flash to good effect, but the image is tilted and the subject centred. Level it, crop some off the LH side and it will improve greatly.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.
