Comeon guys, it was supposed to be a lighthearted thread.

You do not see the original composition but rather how I cropped them from much larger frames to feature the dog for our daughter.

Oh well.

I don't know why you expect anyone to have a sense of humor in this forum. Especially in the beginners forum

Doesn't really matter if they were shot fully auto, half auto, or anything else, it's two happy snaps of the back of a dog jumping into water, and one of a dog's head in the water. Ron, how average a photographer can you be, if this is "showing you up" Oh nice exposure though.
They just aren't good images, it's really that simple. I'm sure lots of people have produced great images using full auto, I wouldn't write off any setting on a camera. The fact that it was shot on auto makes no difference.

Comments like these are unwarranted. Especially the bold. Stabs like these portray you in a negative light. How great of a photographer are you to be making comments like these?

Ron, you have to be careful making such posts. I hate to see you or your wife end up incarcerated some where up there in the north country. Here in the US to own and shoot full auto you must have a permit from the ATF. According to the information I found:

Prohibited weapons,
  • full-automatic firearms
  • sawed-off rifles or shotguns with barrel length less than 457mm (18 inches); this does not apply to firearms manufactured with short barrels
  • sawed-off rifles or shotguns with overall length less than 660mm (26 inches); this does not apply to firearms manufactured with short stocks or short barrels
  • handguns with a barrel less than 105mm (4.14 inches), except certain specifically listed competition handguns which are restricted
  • handguns in caliber .25 or .32, except certain specifically listed competition handguns which are restricted
  • silencers
  • large capacity magazines for a semi-automatic center-fire firearm. What constitutes "large capacity" varies; as a general rule, the maximum capacity is 5 rounds for long guns, 10 rounds for handguns "commonly found in Canada", and 5 rounds for handguns "not commonly found in Canada." Magazines for rimfire cartridges, the 8-round clips used in the M1 Garand, and 10 round Lee Enfield rifle magazines are exempted by name from this prohibition.
  • any of a long list of firearms specifically listed as prohibited. With few exceptions, if it has a remotely military appearance, it is prohibited.
  • replicas of firearms
  • any type of Taser or other firearm that discharges a dart or other object carrying an electrical current.
  • tear gas, Mace or other gas, or any liquid spray, power or other substance that is capable of injuring, immobilizing or otherwise incapacitating any person
  • any type of stun gun or other electrical charge device of length less than 480mm
  • a large additional class of prohibited weapons, such as nunchakus, switchblades, brass knuckles, etc. which are not discussed here. Read the list here if you care.
Ron, the first one on the list are FULL Auto's. I don't want to see the RCMP's come knock, knock, knocking on your door.

P.S. She took some nice photos there.:D

I may have made a statement, it wasn't high lighted in a bold font. If the post was made in jest and with some sarcasm, then I missed the point. The original statement about how good these photos are, well according to others, comments left me puzzled. How is that by making a truthful observation puts me in a negative light, should I have just said great photos, would have been better if you could see the dogs face, but it's a nice splash he made. That would be me lying about a photo. I won't make any other comments about this subject. If I have offended you Ron, I apologize.

"How great a photographer are you to be making comments like these" I won't lie, I'm very good.

Well, I think everybodys' point here is that these are good photos, and if you think they suck it is probably because you saw that they were shot in full auto, and assumed that they must not be good if they weren't done by a pro.

BTW it's my first post here. Hi.

This whole "I am telling it how it is" crap is just a cop out to be a richard. That's all I see is people making any excuse they can to just be abrasive and snobby. You could have been just as truthful by simply sticking to something like "I don't see what's so special about them". I feel a bit odd that I have to tell an grown man how to interact with others.

How is that by making a truthful observation puts me in a negative light, should I have just said great photos, would have been better if you could see the dogs face, but it's a nice splash he made.

Please don't play coy. You know very well no one expects you to give false advice or false flattery.

Ron, how average a photographer can you be, if this is "showing you up"

I guess this is your idea of truthful constructive criticism. This would be the comment that I put in bold for the reason specified.

I won't lie, I'm very good.

So good that you float around the beginners forum hounding people making lighthearted threads. Good to know.

I have a feeling this thread is going to get locked :er:

I apologized to Ron for the comments. End of story.

I regard Ron as a true gentleman, in all senses of that word. He is also an amateur, in that he is a lover of what he does. Ron has shared many of his explorations and discoveries and quiet observations with us, to our enjoyment, entertainment and education. Seen in the context of his many postings, it is (or should be) clear what his intent was with this thread. It was a quiet little chuckle that he shared with us, knowing full well the general propensity of many to disparage "auto" anything. Some of the comments he received are not worthy of being directed to a person who exibits no pretensions, but shares his quiet enjoyment of photography. We can all learn a thing or two about how to handle things with dignity and grace.

I have only been a member here a VERY short time, I am a member of many other forums, guns, truck, cars....and NEVER have I seen such a bunch of snooty better than thou, Im so much better than you kinda snoobs......I see it nearly every post.....I didnt see Ron ask for C&C he was mearly showing his wifes shots and proud of her....and before the post could get started the asses came out and begin the attact.....**** man, didnt your mama ever tell you if you cant say something nice keep your damn lips shut.....what a bunch of snivling little fanboys.....

Ron, I think the pics are great.....

Well, they're obviously not good pictures because they were shot in full auto. Everyone knows that "good pictures" can only be taken in manual mode (well, Av if you're a noob).

DOUCH

well I love ron. so there. ron is great and his wife is a sweetie and the pics, I think, are adorable because I love dogs! ron, I am immensely proud of your lifestyle and where you live .. and I vicariously live through you so please keep posting. Us city folks LOVE seeing the adventurous beautiful land that you live in, it's a nice humble reminder of what is important in life.

I have obviously offended not only a fellow Canadian but more so I have offended all of Rons friends by comments I made. While I could retract what I said, I still believe what I said to be accurate, it was not a personal attack on Ron, although I may have suggested his wife must be a better photographer than he is, that was not my intention. He did not ask for a critique, so in future I will withold any further negative critiques towards any of the photos posted on this forum at the risk of offending.

It seems that I have bruised my personal professional rules of observation and the understanding that professional photographers should point out the positive in images and not the negative.
