A beautiful face does not need to have "perfect" skin. Your wife is beautiful! Of course, I understand how she probably feels as I'm also self-conscious about my own face and its many imperfections.

The light and exposure in that photo are quite good, btw. It has a dreamy, pensive, feeling I find very appealing.

So much added while I was typing out my last reply! Don't think of it as "what is this supposed to be", think of it as "how do I like what I'm seeing". Having the horizon above, below, or through her head each has its own merits, decide which you like best.

for your information i know this is B&W but to let you know the reason she want me to edit her skin :

If your wife would prefer that you smooth her skin, that is of course her right (as it would be for any client - photographers can debate the merits of skin smoothing, or selective color, or any other processing, but what matters most is delivering what the customer wants). However, both from the perspective of a man looking at a woman and a photographer looking at an image, I much prefer her un-retouched skin to the overly smooth skin in the B&W shot.

On another side note, I'm glad you posted a color version. I adore sunsets, particularly over water, and was thinking that it was a bit of a waste to convert the gorgeous light at that time of day to B&W.

I know you asked Rob, but I just have to say I like that last image (#4 Sunset), even with the underexposed subject. You did a good job of rendering the evening seaside mood and the subject's emotions. I won't comment on the exposure issues since you say your wife likes this photo for those qualities. But I poked at it a bit in PS and tried to bring just a tad more highlight to her face - couldn't resist. Oh and, I'd try not to cut off her hair. Otherwise, I think this is a fairly good composition.
