What's new

need some advice on cameras

(would really like one i can adjust the focus on though, becuase the entire picture is always in focus, i would like to unfocus the background sometimes, and editing for that effect never looks as nice as if it was done in origional shot)

What you are talking about here is a function of aperture, not focus. I don't know the specs on your camera, so I'm not sure how much manual control you have over it. My suggestion would be to take a small bit of your budget and spend it on "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. Read it with your camera by your side and practice what you're reading. I realize you may not have enough manual control over your camera to do everything discussed in the book, but you need to remember that knowledge makes a bigger difference than gear. Even with a better camera, not knowing the fundamentals of photography and cameras will result in pics that have all the same issues you have now. Once you gain a fair degree of understanding, start looking for a used entry level DSLR.

I looked at your gallery pictures. The camera is fine, there are other things which prevent you from having a sharper image:

1. Movement of the subject
2. Camera shake (I assume it does not have an Image Stabilization feature, otherwise use it)
3. Focusing on the right spot (in some of the photos I see a very sharp background on which the camera focused)

First of all, focus on (pardon the unintended pun here) the focus area. I am not familiar with the Cyber Shot, the focusing area should be the subject and not the surroundings. In order to acquire that, point at the centered subject, depress half way and keep it depressed while you move the subject off center (that will maintain the focus on the subject) and only then take the picture. Case in point, the picture with the row of flowers, which are in focus while the subject is not. Also, use the Av setting (Aperture Value) and select some aperture like 8 or 11 if you want to have more depth of field. If not, then make sure you focus on the subject the way I mentioned above.

Your pictures are good, they just need a little tweaking before and during the picture taking. :D Keep practicing and post them.

Also, if you want to post pictures here, there are two ways you can do that successfully.

1. Become a subscriber (supporting member)
2. Upload your pictures onto a free hosting picture site (Flickr, Photobucket and so on), then insert the address of each picture between the
tags, just like so:

COLOR][I][COLOR=

(tag)
---address-------------------------- (tag)

Good luck!
