What's new

Need to know in a hurry (another lens question-sorry)

Congrats!

I also want to say, I  your avatar!

Ok it's done, I now own a D7000 with kit lens plus a 50mm 1.8 prime, I also got a flash (Smart Flash by Phoenix) all for around $1800. I'm excited yet slightly overwhelmed by how much money I just dropped on photo equipment. Can't wait to start taking pictures! Charge battery, Charge!

Congrats! I hope you enjoy the D7000 as much as I do! :D

Late for the party, as usual. Congratz on the gear. If the kit lens is the 18-55mm, then you're alright. It's actually a quite sharp lens given enough light.

Here's the million dollar question though.....

And you have to be honest.....

After the battery charged, how many pictures did you take of your feet, the ceiling fan and the empty soda can on the coffee table?

Lmao I took pictures of EVERYTHING, mostly my dog, plants, toys, camera equipment, dirty sink....yeah, I had fun :).

Kundalini: Kit lens is 18-105mm

Bitter: Thanks! lol I always wind up with dorky pictures of myself.

Pssst... show your D7000 pride! Update that signature!

Welcome to the club. It's a great camera. :)

now that you have it, scour the garage sales, local stores and intrawebs for the AI, AI-S, AF, AF-D, AF-S and AF-I lenses. Some can be had on the cheep, and many are steals.

I have purchased the following lenses used for what I consider to be a steal.......a NIkkor 135mm AI 2.8 ($150), a Rokinon 28mm 2.8 ($30), a NIkkor 28-70 AF-D ($89) and a Nikkor 180mm AF ($190) and they are all really nice.......Particularly the 135mm 2.8 AI...... I can't get enough of that one.

There are countless others just waiting for a home. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed... just remember for the ones without a D chip to plug in the values in the NON CPU lens databand (p.159 of your novel of a manual.)

What's a D chip?

What's a D chip?

Sorry, I may have misspoke.

From NIkonians.org....

The D Chip

Relays distance information from a Nikkor or Nikon-D-compatible lens into a Nikon camera body that features 3D Color Matrix Metering, 3D Matrix Metering, and 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash, body which in turns relays it -after processing it with metering data- to a Nikon speedlight for ultra-precise fill-flash.

You need to plug in the lens info for AI and AI-S lenses so the camera meters corectly.
