A few suggestions/comments:
- watch your backgrounds. Some background elements provide context, others just provide distraction. Don't be afraid to clean them up in post.
- soften the light. You said your flash was diffused, so.. diffuse it more.
- move the subject several feet away from the background if you can. Hard shadow outlines (as seen on the white wall in #3) never look good
- set the flash off the camera axis and farther away from the subject. In #2, there is a catchlight smack-dab in the center of the subject's pupils, a harsh outline shadow cast by his face, and a rather unpleasant (IMO) pattern of light fall-off from the right side to the left side of his face.
