Newbie digital question

I'm a film-shoter. My experience with digital is really limited, so I am definitely a newbie there. And as newbie I have a newbie's question.

As I posted a couple of days ago, I'm looking for a digital P&S to have something digital to use now and then. I've been looking at different options (too many!!!) and found something that sounds good, but...

but it uses a memory card that my computer won't support. So my newbie question is as follows: can you transfer the pictures stored in the card to the computer without inserting the card in it? that is, by USB-plugging the camera in the computer can you take what is stored not in the internal memory of the camera but in the memory card?

I know you can transfer what the internal memory of the camera has, but with memory cards I've been putting them directly into the computer so far, and I don't know whether this "mediaton" of the camera can be made or not. It would be the only option for me to use this camera, I guess!

Yes, I'm pretty sure that just about every camera is capable of this.

A better option would be to get a card reader. They are not too expensive, they are faster than using the camera and you won't waste your camera's batteries.

I agree, they are pritty cheep nowerdays...heh I have 3

One in built on my photographic printer (it dont need a p.c.)

One seperate by USB cable, simple thing.

One Built into my new p.c., so I just plud the card in my p.c. now
