Nikon 300mm 2.8 question

Looking at Nikon 300mm 2.8 lenses.

I have a D750 and D7200.

Anyone using the older AF model for sports ?

Would the older AF models auto focus fast enough for night football ?

It will, but I would be careful unless the lens is a real bargain. There are NO parts left for these and if the AF motor or any other critical part fails you have a very large, very awkward paperweight.

I thought AF model used the camera to auto focus ... where AF-I and AF-S have lens motors to focus.

Could be totally wrong though.

Sorry, you're right, it does use the in-body motor, but there are still no parts for it. I think they're even out of parts for the first gen AF-S now as well.
