Nikon's 5-year warranty

It works but make sure to keep your 5-year warranty card and original receipt of your lenses. I just sent my 24-70 f2.8 in for minor repair (focus ring was grinding) and they're doing it under warranty. I bought the lens in 2011.

Yep, works like a charm. Had the same issue with my 24-70 (3 years old at the time). Sent it in, got back a brand-new lens (with my old lens & body caps! ).

Nikon's lens warranty is for just 1 year.
The get the 4 year extension you have to register the lens at NikonUSA.com

Nikkor lenses come with a standard one year USA limited warranty + a 4 yr. USA Extended Service Coverage for a total of 5 yrs of protection.

I didn't register my lenses at NikonUSA.com but kept the warranty card for a total of 5 years warranty. Did you actually read the instructions and followed through with an actual service request? I did and it works.
