Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I have T1i. I shoot a bird at some distance with Quantaray 70-300. Still was not close enough, so I crop ( while in RAW). The noise was unbearable.
The shot was done in ISO200. It is something wrong with my camera (beside being Canon) or the lens is piece of crap. I had digital rebel xt before, and had sharper photos. Less noise.

The lens doesn't have a great reputation.

Under exposing a digital image promotes the visiblity of noise as does a heavy crop.

Part of your issue could also be chromatic aberration, coma, and/or fringing.

Without seeing the original and the cropped photos, no one can say for sure.

It is the glass. I use the lens kit (18-35). Shoot a bird and crop. No noise.
Look like, I have to get Canon telephoto to have better shot. Why, to hell, the good glass have to be so expensive.

Bad glass doesn't make images noisy. Because of its small aperture it creates under exposed images creating more noise.

Not all who post here have a clear understanding of what image noise is or looks like.

I have seen people call CA - noise, not understanding the difference.

I agree that we really need to see the photos and 100% crops to get an idea of what you are describing here. It could be the lens - it could be the camera - it could be the operator -- we honestly can't give any meaningful input though until we see the photos.

You should be able to pick up a Sigma 70-300 on eBay or Craigslist for under $200 and it's a GREAT lens, in my opinion.

its the lens and if you didn't put the camera on a tripod that could add to it. Also the cropping on a cropped sensor adds to the problem.

Could you explain how not putting the camera/lens on a tripod would add to chromatic aberration.

I'm not sure I understand how a crop sensor camera adds to chromatic aberration either.
