Old photo restoration - before and after

This is still a work in progress. Every now and then I open it up and do some more work on it. I'm not sure if I'll keep it colorized... I haven't been able to get the skin tone the way I want it.

It's a scan. The original photo was roughly 3x4 inches and I had it professionally scanned at 1000 dpi. I spent about a month working on it and had an 8x10 print made for my wife (it's the last photo taken of her father, who died when she was just a baby). Since then I've gone over it a half-dozen or more times, getting smaller and smaller details as I go. When I've got it as good as I can, I'm going to have another print made to replace the original, as there are some small visible flaws in it. I just wish I could get the color right... the skin always looks either too blue or too orange. I'm still searching the web for better colorization techniques.

I hate it when flickr does that. I replaced the photo and it changed its name, so my original post photo is gone. Oh well, here it is again.
