Nice shot. Unfortunately, the "stuff" in the water (stumps?) tends to detract from the overall image. Can you find a different vantage point where there is nothing in the water?

Sorry Rotty, but I think I agree with WG on this one. There's a calming effect of the overall scene with the harsh stumps blocking my perfect view. It would have been beautiful without them.

I'm onboard with the other guys and would have to say that perhaps the naming wasn't ideal, BUT, that fog in the trees and the reflection... yum! Perhaps if you pull a bit more detail in the stumps in the water and make them less blocky? They definitely draw the eye and keep it right now, the eye should be rewarded

Without the stumps it's a postcard, and not a very good one.

I think PixelRabbit might be on to something with pulling more detail there, and I think perhaps a slightly different vantage point might have been an improvement -- let the stumps be the thing that breaks symmetry, let them stand out even more, let this photograph be about the stumps. Even a crop, dropping perhaps 10% off the left side of the frame, I think strengthens the image.

Anyways. Good idea to use the stumps. Everyone likes the picture postcards of Mt Hood, because it's such a pretty pretty mountain, but we don't exactly need more of them.

I climbed it once when I was a kid. A few years later it killed a bunch of kids from the same school, and at least one teacher I knew and liked pretty well. It's pretty, but you still can't be messing about with it.

I thought the rocks/stumps were an interesting disruption in what would otherwise be a very formal and plain reflection shot of this beautiful mountain. I was hoping the foreground wouldn't carry so much visual weight, but I guess from these comments they do. To me, the shot in the op is more interesting than the one above. But the unanimous disdain for the rocks should be reason for pause

I've got mixed emotions on this one. I can understand what they say about the stumps but the dock, the shore line, fog and the reflection all add up to a pretty dang good photo if you ask me. I guess I don't mind them in the shot because if I went there, they would be seen and to me that makes good photography.

I think the stumps bring the reflection into a much more-interesting "reality" than if they were not in the shot. Popular opinion tends to favor the banal, the mundane, the expected.

I'm not saying I don't like the stump/rocks there, quite the contrary, I like them there very much! I just wish there was a bit of light, detail, something to make them stand out a little more.

might benefit from some sharpening, and applying a details extractor... effect is slight (didn't want to overdo it) but you could really sharpen up the trees, etc...

I really like the stumps in the first picture. It breaks up the photo nicely. I just wouldn't have called this thread "Peaceful Feeling". In fact, I think the stumps create a feeling of tenseness, not peacefulness.
