Pensive Toddler

Took this at a toddlers party. She was obviously deep in thought, I didn't ask her about what for fear of losing the moment. Had to be quick, so it's a simple point and shoot.

I'm not very good at portraits, but what do you think? Which one do you prefer?

The uncloseup shot is what I prefer. Pretty odd expression for a toddler to have at a party haha

Well, I prefer the wider shot. Gives her eyes a lot more room to look into. I wish those were in better focus, though. Then it'd be a good photo. Like this, it looks like the quick snapshot it is, I'm afraid.

Thanks for looking and for your comments.

I agree with all you've said actually. A short while ago I read an article (which I now can't find) by a pro photographer who advocated cropping faces very close. So I gave it a try, which is this one. Can't say I like it, but I put it on here to see what reaction it got.

As for the eyes, my excuse is that there was a lot of people milling about so perhaps I didn't wait for the camera to focus properly. Maybe I should have pre-set my camera to high speed focusing to cover this kind of opportunity.
