Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
would i need special permission from the mall manager to walk in and shoot or is it a public place and id be allowed to just walk in and shoot, of course on my only day off from work this week its a rainy day andi cant go outside with my camera, i havnt been able to go outside with the camera yet

someone had posted a photographers rights page, but that was 6 years old, but they probably still applied anyway

I was stopped one time inside the mall by the mall security guard and was told not to take photography. But not sure about the mall at your location.

Depends on the location and your gear.

If there have been a number of photogs who have already been shown the door then you are probably out of luck.

If you are shooting what looks to be "pro" gear, you are likely out of luck as well.

Otherwise, go with somebody, act like a tourist and keep moving, by the time they have you spotted and decide to do something about you you'll be through. ;)

Shoot first, ask questions later. Cant stop you if you already have the shot

would a nikon d3000 with a 15-55mm lense be considered "pro" or "semi-pro" or "ameteur"

and as far as i know, i have never heard of any photographers inside hte mall nor have i seen any

It would appear to be pro gear to the security guards.

Hell, it's not illegal unless you are told to stop and you continue. Keep your camera unobtrusive until you're ready to use it. If you're then stopped, you are NOT obligated to give up the shots you've already taken.

Malls are not public space - they are private land and property so to shoot inside one you do need to seek permission of the owners. Now of course a little point and shoot or mobile phone camera tends to attract no attention but anything that looks like an SLR is likley to.
My advice is to ask first and see - if they say yes then you have no problems at all to worry about. Make sure when you ask to outline clearly your intentions for the shooting and what your uses of those images are going to be. Further make sure to talk to someone important - the secretary is likley to just have a stock answer of No but her boss or the manager (best person to talk to) does have the capacity to make the choice. If you can meet in person then all the better

i just called them up and they said i would have to be a media personnell and be escorted by a manager, but i asked them if i could be escorted by then manager and just shoot for my portfolio, she said shell call me back after she talks to the general manager

IF you get a call back, the answer will be "No."

thats what im assuming, if they say no, ill try to bargain with them that i can sell them or give them some of the pictures i take for promotional purposes to put on the website or somehting like that

They will likely say no. The chances of something coming back it bite them in the ass is usually enough for most places to just say 'no photography'...it's just easier for them.

Don't waste your time asking for permission. Just go in, shoot what you need fast and get out. If they catch you, they'll just ask you to pack up the camera and/or leave. If you shoot what you need fast, that won't be a problem as you'll already have your shot.

more people and places need to see photography as an art and not a liability, we need to raise awreness, wanna join my cause to make photography known as art world wide? we can make our own little bracelets like every other cause does

I wonder if going and sketching in the mall would cause the same panic. I'd get the same shot with less details. ;)
