Pileated and Wood Ducks in a Tree

[Woodsman]

Got these guys on this mornings woods walk. The Pileated was working on an old fallen log that was so rotten he was only making a dull thud sound. The wood ducks were high up in a tree, really high up.

Yes they do. A few years ago high up in another tree the female got her foot caught in the bark of the tree at the nest hole. We had to call in a local sign contractor who had a bucket truck and he went up and released her and she was fine. The rescue made the local papers at the time.
