Nice work. The bag adds interest in what would otherwise be a regular cliché sunset shot.

You could have emphasized it even more by getting closer and composing to include more foreground and less sky.

I like the composition and treatment very much. The ship and bridge add an extra point of interest; the ship and the position of the bag make the the image look like a fleeting moment. Bags blow around, don't they?

my only question would be why the shadow of the bag is pointing away at an angle. It looks like the bag, sun, and camera are mostly aligned... is there some interesting physics at work here?

yes but notice the left part of the bag, it's not alligned with the sun-camera
