I'm kinda wondering, are yall being nice to someone new in the field? or is it actually pretty good? thanks either way. My dad gave my photos a 6. He tends to be to really honest.

yeah, lose the lettering, the second shot is a bit too dark, being the main focus is the girl that should be light and sharp, bringing attention to her and not the surroundings.

As everyone has said, lose the lettering.
I think the 2nd one is the best. I don't like her fingers on the post and I don't like her elbow out the other side so I'd crop her arm just above the elbow and in from the right till your on the pole. Also a bit of fill light from the right would have made her face a bit brighter and as your main light source was from the left and simple reflector would have done the job
Remember with portraits. Focus on the eyes.

i like the comp.. the dof needs to be brought out more in the 1st one. As far as the letters go.. try toning the colors down to a more gray of a color. select one thats in the b&w image. and make it rap onto the post.

I don't think that going black & white really helps most portraits. The color photo is the nicest to look at. The B&Ws are lacking contrast both in processing and composition, and in the third one her shirt is dominating. I think the second photo needs to be rotated a tiny bit clockwise.

I agree with the comments about the lettering. A little script font in the corner of a photo might not be too distracting, but the lettering here screams "hey look, my name!"


I think that you did a really nice job posing your subjects. Definite potential IMO.

If you're set on keeping lettering in the photo, why not do some great photoshopping in it and make it look like it was actually carved into the pole or the bricks?

I think #1 is the best of the lot, but his arm is distracting. Try not to have body parts coming out of someone's head.

I'm not even sure I know the basics!! I got selective coloring down! I saved some pics without the lettering! the girl just wanted it that way. That was a good point with the arm thing though. My mom always reminds me of that, like poles and other stuff. Thanks for the tips.
