Hello friends,

I'm a newbie to the field of photography. I just want to get an advice on what camera to buy. I have done a lot of research on bridge cameras. Of which I found out two cameras as good choices. One is Nikon Coolpix P600 and the other is Canon FX50 HS. I wolud like to get an advice on what cam to go with. Since I am a beginner, these bridge cams would just serve the purpose of practicing photography. Please help me out.

Canon SX50 HS.
I had a Nikon COOLPIX P520, which really was a bridge for me. I had a regular point and shoot before it, and after using the P520 I felt confident buying a system camera.
Thing is, the P520 had many odd limitations, that only bothered me after about two months of use:
1. No filter thread;
2. Longest exposure capped at 8 seconds;
3. No RAW file recording (can only save processed JPEGs).

I checked the P600's specifications, and didn't find any mention of a filter thread, so I think it's safe to assume it doesn't have one. The exposure time cap has risen to 15 seconds, like the SX50, but there's still no RAW support. That's more than a good-to-have feature; I bought the P520 thinking I won't need that, but turns out it was one of the four main reasons I wound up selling the damn camera (the three I've written above, plus my image quality standards have changed).

Out of these two, SX50 any day of the week. I have used the canon sx50 almost exclusively for at least a couple of years (visit the links in my signature for samples), the only downside is the low light performance. Ability to shoot RAW does matter, as already told by Ido.

Unless you love birding or are a wildlife shooter, May I also suggest panasonic FZ200 which would be much better for indoor shooting under low light with the constant aperture of f2.8 with a decent zoom of upto 600mm (I think). It is a big deal, just so you know.
