If you can't get them sharp with what you have already it is down to your settings or teknique

After I had said sharp was the wrong word. I'm looking to replace the mf 50mm. So I do not have to take 10 shots for 1 focused picture. That is on me.

unless someone else could really suggest something I should use with like 600 bucks that will improve pictures.

Technically, in a control environment, I think your kit lens (with aperture set at f/8) can do a pretty good job on "model head shots" type photos.

Of course, if you planning to replace the 50mm prime lens with AF-S 50mm f/1.4 lens, I do not see why not. As long as you feel happy!
