Portrait photography book

Can anyone recommend a good book on portrait photography to start with? I really would like my portrait shots to look a bit better than just ordinary snapshots, but have no idea where to begin.

The Fine 35mm Portrait is a decent, older book. What is has going for it is the aspect ratio of the "35mm" part, as well as the small,light,portable eye-level SLR-style cameras that comprise the majority of the portraiture done with the type of camera so many people have. The book was printed for many years.

Oh....I see you are in Poland...might be hard to find that book there in-person, but it is available from eBay and Amazon and book dealers...

It's not that bad with book availability in Poland. I mean original English versions are usually hard to find, but I am sometimes amazed how many of photo books are translated and released in Poland. Will definitely look for it, thanks a lot for the recommendation.

EDIT: Turns out I would have problems getting it in Poland after all, mostly because it's age probably

The 2 keys to doing portraiture are lighting and posing.

So I would recommend looking for information on those 2 aspects.
