Railroad Theme- CC

Looking for some CC on these two railroad theme photos.

Im a Photography student just starting out, this is my first semester and prior to this i had never shot anything but snapshots, but i would really like to continue in this feild so any CC would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There has been no PP done to these since im still saving for a nice computer and software...starving student and all i was lucky to scrounge together just enough for the camera.

C&C per req:

1. Technically this image is fine, except perhaps for the deep shadow cast by the top of the rail). Artistically, I see where you were going here (I think) but the result isn't doing a lot for me. I have to admit though, that I'm not sure what could be done to improve it.

2. The highlights on the upper portion of the image are a little bright, and cound stand to be knocked back maybe 1/3 of a stop or so. I think this one might have been a little better from a compositional standpoint had you been look squarely at the brake wheel...

Just my $00.02 worth; your mileage may vary.
