My jpeg prints are gorgeous, no real difference in print quality.

As far as RAW and your memory cards, see if your camera supports compression. I know with mine I can shoot raw and use lossless compression to make the files about 3 or 4 MB's compared to 7 to 8 for uncompressed. Meaning I can fit about 120 RAW images on my 512 card... my only card to boot.

While you guys seemed to understand my anology, I thought of one far more fitting. (for future use )

It's based on a haircut!

Getting the haircut is taking the photo. The finished hairdo is the finished photo. If you shoot Jpeg there's your haircut. You have to live with the results. There's no "undo" or "going back to what you had pre-haircut.

Using RAW is like previewing what your hair would look like ahead of time on a computer. You can try different haircuts, different colors, anything you want, and if you don't like it, you haven't actually cut your hair yet so you can start over. Once you choose your settings, length, color, style, you can cut your hair into the final hairdo (in the real world).

Yup yup. Much more fitting.

I only shoot in raw, and I make prints of lots of my photos, up to 24x36. Quality is important. I also post process my photos to get the look I want,

There is also software, like BreezeBrowser, that will let you extract more highlight detail out of RAW images than you will get from TIFF or JPG. I have a 1G microdrive and a couple smaller cards, so space isn't so much of an issue. I really want to start with the data as close to the camera captured it as possible, so I can make choices. I also don't like the lossy compression, even if it's only a small amount.
