RIP, Odin

Made the difficult decision to have Odin put to sleep on Saturday. His seizure-like episodes were taking their toll on him, becoming more frequent, and there was little left for our vet to offer us. It was very quiet and peaceful, with many treats and the best ear rubbing ever, which he loved.

We were never certain of his actual age, since I took him from a friend who was getting divorced and couldn't take him to his new apartment. I first met Odin when he could fit in the palm of my hand - an adorable, happy pug puppy. I only knew he wasn't quite yet 2 years old, when I brought him home in August of 2002. His last couple of vets were impressed with his longevity.

Will y'all indulge me? He was such a great little friend.

Nothing especially great here. Just the usual snaps taken over the lifetime of the family dog.

Very sorry indeed Terri - but you know at some point he's going to reach across the Rainbow Bridge and leave you a little 'get even' gift in your slipper for that tutu picture!

Even when it's expected and for the best, it's still such a shock when the furry ones are gone. For such small creatures, they leave huge holes. I loved LOVED seeing all the pictures! RIP, Odin. You were loved.

I'm about to go into the grocery store and will be trying not to be too weepy while shopping

Very tough to lose a pet... My vet told me "Remember the good times". It didn't work.....

terri, give yourself a few days. Then go to you local animal shelter or rescue group and look for that dog that is searching for someone like you. Don't worry about finding the dog, the dog will find you.

No this is not a replacement for Odin. Odin can never be replaced in your heart.

The thing is the human heart is capable of unlimited love. There is another dog out there that is desperately searching for the kind of love that you can give. A safe home, a gentle word, a soft hand and an ear scratch now and then is all it takes to give and receive the kind of love that will never fade. The joy of a different dog will not replace the joy Odin gave you. It will be a new joy all it's own shared by both. Good luck.

So sorry for your loss. It is a difficult time. I lost my best friend last September and it was a long winter without her. In June I got a middle age dog, same type a chocolate lab. She is my new best pal and I love her dearly. But she is not a replacement for my CinCin. Not a day goes by that I do not think of and miss Cin dearly. She is never far away from me and I am sure Odin will never be far from you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss terri. I know how heavy a heart you must be carrying now.

It took me several years before I felt able to have another dog after Monty passed. I had him 15 years, which is much longer than either of the wives. Only 3 months ago, I rescued a black GSD and the hole in my heart has been filled once again. It is very much as gryphonslair says, the dog will find you when the time is right.

I am sorry to hear this. I got my first dog a year and a half ago. I am amazed at how much I miss the crazy, always hungry boy when I travel. They make it so easy to love them. I love my cat's but I really think they love your hand. Dogs truly show their love for you. Great pics of a cool looking boy.
