Thanks everyone for the comments! It actually wasn't as risky as you seem to think, I didn't actually "hang" out the car at all, just opened the door a bit and reached down with the camera in my fist so to speak, worst thing that woulda happened would be my knuckles bouncing off the ground, which almost happened, but the camera was safe, thats all I care about.
