What's new

Robin Williams

Ah, this one is harder.

Difficult for us, on the outside, to understand how someone who can bring us to laughter so easily isn't necessarily laughing himself.

Coop, thanks for sharing something so personal with us. Happy you're here.:

That's the thing-he might not have chosen. It might have been his bipolar disorder. He may have simply lost his battle with it, much like people lose battles with other diseases-this one being slightly different, but not as much as people think.

I think that's even sadder :(

It takes a lot of pain to be funny.

When I heard he died, I knew it was suicide before I read it.

F*ck depression.

For me, usually news of a celebrity passing away is just that, news! But not this one, I watched the Dead poets society all over again. What a talented guy he was, such a waste of life. Steve Irwin was the only other guy who made me feel this way..

Robin Williams, Rest in Peace.

You were there, when I needed a laugh.
You pointed out the absurdity of reality,
You gave me insight into the feelings that are hidden away,
You make me laugh, and cry, and laugh and cry all over again.
I am only sorry, that I could not help you when you needed the help.
May you have the peace finally, that eluded you earlier.
And while you were with us, thank you for your talent, and your ability to laugh at the heart of darkness.
I will miss you.

I found out from this thread... I have no proper words, just :( :( :(

Michael.... there will always be some ignorant people, don't spend even a second thinking about them!

My facebook feed has been surprisingly supportive, I must have good friends. I've avoided reading comments on articles posted, however. This was my own Facebook post:

"Seeing the flood of memories, tributes, and condolences for Robin Williams on my feed - more than any other celebrity passing in recent memory - makes me wish that he could have known (and felt, I'm sure he "knew") how much he touched the world. I wish we could have helped him back. To any of my friends suffering though depression and mental illness, you are loved. Cherished. The world is better with you here. www.suicide.org"

I only dealt with depression for a brief 8-month period, and most of my real-life family and friends don't even know how close I came to that brink with your mysterious stranger, Coop (well described). Mine was a side effect of a birth control medication, and my doctor said it wasn't possible for it to happen. A big part of the anguish is that you KNOW you should be happy. Then you feel guilty that you're not. Then you feel even more depressed.

By now you've probably read about Robin Williams. Before the news sensationalizes the **** out of his story, please, read this piece I wrote on the topic. He may have committed suicide, but it doesn't make him weak. Before anyone complains, I'm not trying to promote my blog. I just don't want to type this over and over-it was hard enough to do it once.

Hypomanic Impression: The Loss of a Legend

Thanks, guys.

I know I've shared with you how I read your blog and relate to so much of it. I'm avoiding facebook at the moment, because if I see one comment about how he took the easy way out, or something like that, or anything calling him weak, I will lose it.

Most people simply don't understand how far down you have to be to contemplate suicide. How at that point, you *honestly* believe that your friends and loved ones are better off without you. It's not the easy way out. Until you've been there, you can't judge. I've been there, I get it.

I loved Robin Williams and was extremely sad to read that he had died. But I do understand.

I hope you're doing well. (hugs)

I just can't "not" post this. To see these two laughing together is awesome.

Thanks, I forgot about this.

I'm unbelievably saddened by this, I just don't know what to say. It's depressing to say the least.

like most people, I was pretty shocked to hear about Robin Williams' passing. One of the all time greats IMO.

Depression knows no boundaries of income, race, sex, age, etc. I work with people suffering from severe depression in the hospital very regularly, it is something very real, and very serious. if you our someone you love is suffering from it, please get help, do not ignore the signs and symptoms. I know in many circles its seen as 'weakness' to seek help for psychiatric disorders like depression, but absolutely nothing could be further from the truth.

I'm going to put this up here as a reference :Lifeline

Unfortunately no one but Robin knows what he was going through. RIP Robin, you will be missed.

Not that anyone here should benefit this clickbait blogger by reading the article, but THIS is a dangerous mentality that persists through our culture when it comes to mental illness.

And what's so sad is that these people who are "enabling" the belittlement and trivialization of mental illness are actually popular. I found this article from a friend posting it on FB.

And they're not the first one to post something from this douche, either.

Ignorance in power is scary.

I read both Leonore's link and rexbobcat's link

The first one was a good read.

The second one was a complete unnecessary wasting my time. It made me angry and I don't like to let myself be angry over that kind of people :madmad:
