#1 is a very emotional image.
When I was a kid refugees would come to see the priest at our church. He would farm them out to the parishioners who could speak Polish. It was a common occurence for Polish DPs to come to the house and talk with dad. I got to run the beer for them while they talked. My Polish and Russian was limited but I could pick up a good deal of the conversations.
Your photo instills some very strong emotion but doesn't do justice to some of the stories I have heard. I don't think any photo could adequately describe what some of those people went through.
It is a shame that some people cannot learn from history.
