I was trying to carry that hat more or less straight... with no extra goofiness... (those that know me will know what I mean! I have a really strange sense of humor!)

Its cold outside....no one has anything to do (at least where I'm at). I think you are right. The background is too powerful. I really wanted it blown but I think its blown a tad too much.

Catholic mass lmao! I thought the same doing mine!! I do have a remote trigger but I'm pretty sure Angus has stolen it and I can't find his stash (we found his first stash of stolen items under the drier when we moved lol).

I like the first but love the second, what a great carefree capture, well done for your first time, it's tricky!!

Take this with a grain of salt since I do not have white background. All I have is gray. If you already have white background, you probably dont really need to add light to the background. If you do, you don't need much. You just have to make sure you are not casting shadow on the background. More than likely you will have pure white anyway. I think the light to the background bounced back and hit your camera. That is why it looks a little low in contrast.

Now if you are shooting on a gray background like me, that is when you really need the background light to make the background look white. So if I want white, add light. If I want black, I block the light hitting the background. If I want gray, add light a little. I didnt do it to the extreme.. but you get the idea. These are both shot with same gray background. I could have made the background more powerful on the 2nd one and get pure white.

Yeah I think you are totally right. I need to reduce the amount of light on the background in order to avoid the contrast loss. I was definitely getting flare from the light bouncing off the background.

Thanks so much. I'm not such a big fan of being in front of the camera but lately its been hard to convince/demand my wife be my model. So there will probably (unfortunately for you guys) be more self portraits in my future.

Robin was wanting to change the ID on the old account, and the mods could not accommodate him. With his business growing so much, it was time to go with something more professional then SchwettyLens... you can definitely understand that, right? So he started a new account...

Yes, I can certainly understand that. That's too bad about the account name not being able to change. He certainly has a professional name and one that will be unique enough to remember. A big portrait photographer in town is named Bob Smith. Well there happens to be two others with the same name in the area that, while not doing it as long, take portraits as well. So its always funny to hear someone say they're having Bob Smith do their portraits and most assume its the main guy and then when the photos are shown, at first I was like, THAT was done by Bob Smith??? Nope, some other guy.

Now take the name Robinson Usagani. Not only is it a beautiful name, it sounds like one of those photographers that get their work known by people worldwide. I hope that will be the case with sweaty lens.
