Shooting into the light C&C please

We played with shooting into the light with reflector vs no reflector. This was a non-reflector favorite from today.

I just used my in camera light meter to help me along nothing special why do you ask? Does it look like I have done something wrong?

Very nice shot and very nice moment. I think you want to crop in a bit top and left, but you need to be careful to not go too far. It will be tough to balance it.

Lose that watermark, please. If your shot wasn't as good as it was, I wouldn't have even commented JUST because of that. No one is going to steal your picture of someone else's child.

By the way, making two points with one post here...

1. Example of crop that should work well.
2. Proof that any watermark can be removed extremely easily and putting hideous watermarks on your pictures is a huge waste of time. Removing yours, while admittedly a simple watermark, took me about 2 minutes.

Right... but 99% of the people dont even know how to do that. Now people have no idea who shot it if it floats around the internet.

Yeah, true... I should be more clear. I wouldn't suggest a watermark is completely bad. All my images have one. The point is don't let the watermark jack with the image so badly that it takes away from the good work you're doing. This shot the OP took was a LOVELY image. The watermark ruined it.

I agree that it's a very nice shot, good work!

I recently adopted a new graphic watermark. I try to make sure it doesn't obscure any of the actual image and then fade it down to about 40% to make sure it's unobtrusive. I've used it on a couple of shots I've shared here and so far no-one has ripped me a new orifice. Fingers crossed!

Exif data and copyright is embedded anyway (if you program it in), that fact enabled my big brother to send a substantial invoice to a major company who used his photo without asking ... and then tried to deny that it was his. The idiots didn't know that embedded copyright notices existed!

I get the purpose of your watermark. I have no problem with it in this environment. Obviously in other applications it would be less obtrusive or eliminated altogether. I have no problem with the untraditional crop and busy background. Breaking both rules can be appropriate for an informal shot like this.

The crop as it was hurt the image. This isn't about breaking rules, it's about proper craftsmanship. Simply stated, your remarks couldn't possibly be more wrong nor more misleading.

For my money anyone who knows there way around photoshop or similar photo editing (watermark removing) software i would assume has a vague interest in photography and therefore is not one of the likely candidates for stealing copywritten images.
