Shooting the Night Sky...

Am really interested in trying my hand at taking some night sky shots and am after some useful tips. I currently have two AF-S NIKKOR lenses. I have an 18-55 1:3.5-5.6 G and the other is a AF-S NIKKOR 55-200 1:4-5.6G ED

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Tripod north star to get the star trails and go away from any city I have only shot it 4x5 but it cant be to much different. If your by the city it will add light to your photo maybe too much. But I have some examples i will send you in a few days you can check them ou I have used flash lights and camp fires to light up foreground to add some depth of field but try to piont at the north star. I live in the mountians so its easy for me because the stars are so bright. There is not any towns around me.

I live in a town but don't have to travel too far to get away from the light pollution! I look forward to seeing some of your examples. Thank you for your tips I will be sure to use them when I start. Very appreciative of your advice!

I believe that for starry skies it is best to use a higher ISO.
Not entirely sure, I've never tried it myself yet, but I think I've read it a few times.
A higher ISO should be able to pick up small star lights a lot easier.

Yes, but will bring you a lot of noise, too. The setup must be balanced.

Yes it'll bring you noise but if you're not trying to capture star trails a high iso helps a lot. ^^
