Should I buy a D800E?

Should I buy a D800E to take pictures of my cat this summer or use the money to go to take pictures with my existing equipment around the world ? No one is going to sell any of my photo equipment before I die.

Your existing gear is sufficient for kitty pics. I would spend the money on a couple of lenses and if you want to travel, then do so. That's just my opinion.

I'd travel with a decent dslr and some lenses if it was me. Even a cheap Pentax *ist 6mp with a couple of cheap lenses would do the trick. A D800 is not going to do magic unless you got the magic in you to express.

Absolutely! Buy the D800E! None of your current lenses are up to the task for that many MP, so be sure you upgrade to the current professional grade lenses you'll need to resolve all the pixels the D800E has. That should only cost you another $20,000 or so.

Since the D800E pixel density is about the same as the D7000, I think you are referring to my NEX-7. I have been looking for lenses for that. Among them is Summicron-M 50mm F2.

PS: I don't buy anything with the numeral "4", such as D4, f1.4, 24mm... "4" means death. I don't have to believe it is of any merit. You don't want to point a "4" at someone on his birthday, wedding...

Correct answer to OP: No, if you do not know you need the D800e then you do not need the D800e.

Hasselblad, I made that mistake 30 years ago with a RB67, it is just too heavy. My friend convinced me to buy the 6lb+ camera and I foolishly use it and carried it around for over a year. Now, the negatives don't fit into my film scanner.
