Should I buy a D800E?

I would say shoot the cat. Then travel around the world, taking photos. with whatever gear you have access to. Shoot for 100,000 images, minimum! Make sure to get some good shots of the dead cat. And the gun used to shoot said dead cat.

Hasselblad, I made that mistake 30 years ago with a RB67, it is just to heavy. My friend convinced me to buy the 6lb+ camera and I foolishly use it and carried it around for over a year. Now, the negatives don't fit into my film scanner.

That is exactly what I am doing. Do you approve of a Summicron-M 50mm f2.0?

Not even close. The cat has to have some Hasselblad action. He is going to need something good for the fashion shoots he'll be doing after meeting models on the world tour.

Since the D800E pixel density is about the same as the D7000,

That's OK. Lots of people don't understand the relationship of pixel pitch to resolution.

You can not travel the world with the cost of the d800e and I am with darrel shoot that damn cat!!!! and buy a 70-200 2.8 VRii and hide out and take pictures of the cops when they show up to your house. Oh and do it in the dark so you will be able to camp and snap pictures of low light utilzing the 2.8 of the 70-200..with the little bit you have left head to mexico and enjoy some margarittas

Very true, I bought the 200mm when I was in university. It was in the late 70s. "4" wasn't such a factor in the socity, as far as I can remember. Now some building don't have 4th floor. I don't usually use much telephoto, so it stays in my other camera bag most of the time.I also have another f4 lens, about the same age, the 70-210mm for close focus and macro.

but that's interesting, you live in Toronto and some buildings don't have a 4th floor? That's a largely english speaking area. Also I hate your hockey team, for real.

The usual superstitious number is "13," some US buildings (even still, older buildings in NYC and such) don't have that floor. Kind of strange how the number/death/twilight-zone superstitions manifest themselves. I'm very non-superstitious, don't really believe in anything supernatural. Shoot, even "horror" movies with surreal topics don't really scare me.

Yes, it is true even in Toronto. It is not a matter you believing it. If you do it for a living, it is your clients. You can also consider the resale value. The customer base is smaller. If you were selling, you will have to lower the price enough to make me interested. What I don't understand is why the marketing department did not consider this fact? They can easily market it as D3 plus, and would cost them nothing extra. They can have a lens 200mm f3.9 or 50mm f1.38. They true aperture of lens is never the one advertised anyway, It would be a roundup number.

Based off experience, in Chinese culture the number "4" when pronounced has a very similar meaning to "death". In some societies, buildings and hotels don't even have a forth floor, jumping instead directly to 5. hotels even.

FujiFilm made four d-slr cameras. The S1 Pro. The S2 Pro. The S3 Pro. And then...FujiFilm released the S5 Pro--deliberately skipping over the number four, which has connotations of "death". Many Asian cultures have all sorts of beliefs surrounding numbers, such as during the Chinese New Year; it is customary to give red envelopes that contain money. AND, the number of coins or bills is very important:

From Wikipedia: "For all occasions, certain amounts of money are to be avoided. Anything with a four is best avoided because 四 (sì, four) sounds similar to死 (sǐ, death). Even numbers, except four, are better than odd. Eight is a particularly auspicious number. The money inside a red envelope should always be new and crisp. Folding the money or giving dirty or wrinkled bills is in bad taste."
