Should I buy a D800E?

I'm stating superstition as a whole is stupid, and I'm entitled to that belief. The number '4' and its relationship with 'death' is a superstition. Just because it's a widely held cultural belief doesn't make it not a superstition.

There should be 13th floors, people with different color beards than their hair color are just fine in my book, I've walked under plenty of ladders, opened a few umbrellas indoors, had black cats cross in front of me on occasion, and experienced some simply wonderful Friday the 13th's.

I'm not making fun of anyone. You're the one who started in on the name calling, but of course that is your style. Did I make you mad? Do you want to cry it out Derrel? Are you a superstitious man yourself?

To all of you,Enough of the 4s... Let's all buy a D800 or two, and be happy until the next model comes out......

Making fun of widely-held cultural beliefs by calling them "superstion" shows a huge amount of cultural insensitivity on your part Tyler. Stop acting like a total punt.

Admit it...your argument is weak. For a company that has millions of dollars invested in a product, the name of the product is CRITICAL.

How ill-informed are you man? Do you realize what happened to the Chevrolet "Nova" when Chevy tried to sell it in Spanish-speaking areas. Do you know what "nova" means in Spanish? Do you even have a clue?

How utterly ignorant of BASIC marketing principles are you man?

Nova doesn't translate into Spanish. "no va" in Spanish means "doesn't go", but the Chevy situation is a myth. It never happened.

I know that companies try to market products for higher profit, so taking into account peoples' beliefs does make a difference. I think it's stupid, but from a profit standpoint it's just smart.

Hmm interesting. In personal issues I'd side with Tyler on this one; superstition is primitive, a relic of old human socities and instincts. It's 2012, time to mature. (yeah human race, take that! :sexywink:)

However, as I am somewhat involved in the marketing field, I have to agree with Derrel (to some degree)... having a feel on the pulse of the customer base is quite important. And pertaining to cameras, most of which are designed, manufactured, and of course many are sold in oriental countries, it is smart to avoid needless offenses (and if naming camera models numbers excluding "4" prevents decreases in sales and profits, then do it!).

"ethnocentrism".

Look it up. Man, you are a douche sometimes. Maybe it's from all that high grade pot you smoke all the time???

No, I'm not superstitious. And no I don't want to cry. You ought to call you new photo business IRapedYerDaughter Photoz...see how much business you get!!! I mean, what's in a name, right???

I like to think I'm up on current superstition...never heard "4" was a nuber representing death. Can you please share the reason that 4 has such association?

How does a man married to an asian woman not know this?

I had a friend whose dad had a grey beard and jet black hair. He always told us that it was natural. Years later I found out that he really was dying his hair the whole time but not man enough to admit to it.

Foreign countries aren't the only ones that buy into superstition, you realize that right? I don't see how what I said is ethnocentrist in the least. I'm sure many people in different countries/continents also share the sentiments that superstition is stupid. Should be called "stupidstition" or something.

I'm also not suggesting that anyone start a vulgar business name about the raping of females, but that won't stop you from insinuating that I made that allusion. I know you're going through a rough patch in life, D. But there's no reason to be so offensive all the time, especially to someone that's not calling names or ridiculing. Just stating how they feel on the subject of superstition and the role it plays in marketing or product naming. Grow up, dude.

haha completely understand where you are coming from. I wanted to purchase a d800 with a 24-70, but if i do i would pretty much be stuck here, if i dont i may be able to take another european vacation at the end of the summer, or better yet i can upgrade my motorcycle to a bmw 600cc tourer and go across north america. If i take the vacations i take the d7000 with me, i feel it would be better for my photography to go places than to stay home and shoot pics of my dog.
