Forgive me if you meant to underexpose it, but this is a classic example of where the camera's (any camera's) metering system will fail you.

The scene is almost entirely white/bright. The Camera doesn't know that it's snow, just that it's bright. So the the camera's meter tries to expose everything to middle grey, and you end up with grey snow instead of white snow.
In order to actually get the snow to look like white snow, you would need to compensate the exposure away from the meter reading. In this case, I'd guess that you'd want +1, maybe +1 1/3.
