Signatures

You need to stop worrying about sig files and gear lists and focus on the really serious stuff...like peoples' avatars!!! lol! Oh-oh!

On some other forums, I have seen people complain about gear listed in TEXT format, since it can show up in searches...those complainers were usually happy to see gear listen in IMAGE-file formats.... big sigh....

I feel like my avatar is the appetizers to the meat of my post while the sig is a nice sorbet to cleanse the palate.

I gotta be honest... if someone told me their camera was "gripped", that would be pretty much my reaction as well.

I thought that's how everyone explained their camera in person when asked.

"Like, Dude, I Totally have a far out gripped nikon D-7-Kay, got that hand strap and ball head action goin' on. you feel me bro?"

I would laugh too, if someone ever said that in real life. However, in my signature, it's pretty easy to tell I have a grip by simply reading the camera name... I'm one of many users here to do this. It's not like I invented this idea...

Here is my personal opinion on what goes in and doesn't go in signatures.

If it helps you in the usage of your equipment (once the camera is out of the bag) then list it. If it helps in the storage of your equipment, don't list it.

I've seen "reputable" members on here who have gels listed in their signature. That, in my opinion, is not necessarily a sig worthy piece of equipment. Hell I've got a ton of gels, honeycomb grids/reflectors, umbrellas, softboxes, snoots, and all sorts of other crap that I certainly wouldn't list on my equipment in my sig.

I find signatures useful sometimes, I dont list my own gear but dont mind others who do. As long as the signature isn't obnoxiously large I really dont care.

Who really care's about whats is someones sig and if they do who cares.I am not bragging of my gear but proud and grateful for what I have.My avatar is of a Nikon F6 flagship 35mm that I dont own but who cares,except maybe me.

Never really seen anyone bothered by equipment in sigs, I think it's laughable. It's a photo forum, why not have your gear listed? Most auto forums, people put their cars, gun forums their guns, etc etc etc.

If someone is seriously concerned about someone else having gear in their sig, they really need to lighten up, imo.

I can tell you a member that has a hard time with listing gear in signatures is, "TCW" or whatever his screen name is. Specifically the word "Gripped" as mine and the OP have in there. Apparently it's against photographer etiquette, and we are only trying to look "cool" by putting "gripped" in our signatures.

I feel have no choice to respond since you are talking about me but apperently too scared to say my name, and by the looks of it have started wearing a disguise....lol JK. 1st off, I have no problem or ill will towards you. Its only the internet and its not that serious. 2nd I have no issue with people listing their equipment in their sig. I myself was going to do it but haven't got around to it. My only OPINION was that going out of your way to list GRIPPED D-whatever is cornball, and thats just my opinion. It means nothing and If that offends ya than hey get over it. Don't worry about what other people think. ITS ONLY THE INTERNET!!!!! Man I have to say I thought this was over, you didn't have to come crying here. Especially since you say you reported me 2 times for my opinion. lol

I got some of those little plastic eyelet/camera strap attachment tab thingies that are just the bomb, but I didn't list them because I didn't want to look like a camera snob...

We are far from one in the same. I was just curious to how others feel about it, regardless I'm not changing mine. It doesn't hurt my feelings, everyone has their own opinion. Now if someone feels it cluttered the forums or made things hard to read, then I could understand that, but not if someone thinks its a ego booster.

No if I was talking to him I would have quoted his post or said his name. I don't play games and pretend I don't know his name. When it would take 2 seconds to look it up. I felt like he was sincerely unsure if he should stay on the short bus and keep "gripped" in his sig and wanted to ask the forum since he lacked the spine to decide for himself. Now that was aimed at him so when you pull him out your *** let him know. OK??? Now you can say whatever smart little comment you can come up with because I really don't care. I'm done with you little man... and honestly its amazing that this much has been said already about a stupid sig. lol
