For what it's worth, I refreshed the "active forums" page at about 10:40 Toronto time and it took about 14 min. I doubt much can be done about that, but yeah, it's a bit long. . . .

I have been on and off the site all day and have not had any issues. Maybe you need to restart.

There are a few possibilities. I have a feeling it might have to do with deliberate slowing down on my Windows 8.1 install through the Edge browser. Performance dropped fairly suddenly early this year. What an interesting coincidence. :)

That makes the most sense. What you described seems more related to browser or OS issues. Not widespread on the forum server side or we'd hear from a wide variety of users.

You might want to try a different browser and clear your cache, then a restart.

I clear browser cache and cookies regularly.

Yeah Microsoft wants to talk to you about an upgrade. That’s how they get your attention.

Yeah. Just to clarify the situation a bit more, Microsoft "dropped support" of Win 8.1 shortly before the sudden slowdown of my computer. The difference was clear. YouTube tabs in particular needed to be closed.

Recently my download speed, only here at TPF, has drastically slowed. It sometimes takes minutes to display a recent post. I can visit youtube, ebay, news sites etc with now problem at all. I have tried changing browsers (Google chrome, Edge, and FireFox) to no avail. I have cleared all cookies etc multiple times, and restarted my computer multiple times as well. I can use my phone to log in and view as many posts at TPF as I like...no problem at all. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

Edit: I am using a Dell XPS15 laptop, 32g memory.

What is the operating system on the laptop? Are you up to date?

It is Windows 10. I believe everything is up to date as I recently updated any drivers that needed updated. It's so strange that it is just here at TPF that I experience this.

Yours is the only report that I have seen of this issue. I frequently use TPF on my laptop and do not have any slow loading issues. If you’re using a link to get to the site, maybe delete it and start fresh or try an incognito window in Chrome.

This has been a challenging issue. Just after I made my first post about this, maybe 2 hours or so, I went back onto the forum and low and behold it was seemingly fixed...pages loaded lightening fast, for the first 3-4 posts I read then it went back to being very slow. Then I decided to do a 'system restore' to a previous restore point when I did not have this issue. Now it seems to be working much better. We'll see how it goes from here.
I very much appreciate your responses. Thank you

I've had some some slow load issues with TPF off and on for the past few months. I'm running W11 and everything is up to date. However this past week internet finally went out completely. ATT had some equipment problems downstream. Once they fixed that everything improved dramatically. With all the storms across the country I suspect there are other equipment issues.

It might also be worthwhile to look at what TSRs might be running: virus scanners, etc. The Task Manager "Startup" tab will let you know what starts when you boot the machine, and relative load on resources. I tend to disable as much as possible.

Will look into that. Appreciate the suggestion. Thanks
