What's up TPF noob! Welcome to the forums I'm still kind of a noob myself. Anyway, this is a good shot, I like it! The model is great, and it's a great idea. I agree with the others that the background needs to be a little less distracting, and the model herself needs to be sharper. This is my own go at it. I kind of like brighter photos when it comes to outside scenes. You may argue it's overexposed, but I like it and that's just my personal preference.

So you like the way the dress just blends into the background and becomes invisible on bottom subject right, and the dress basically loses most of it's detail also? Interesting! And the way the snow has no detail in it at all... just totally blown out? Even more interesting! I don't have to argue that it is overexposed.. it is very apparent!

Precisely! It's like she is PART of the landscape. Part of the winter wonderland. Besides cgipson1, I was offering my creative input, why don't you focus on that instead of berating me? Btw, have any of you guys heard of Photo on the Net? Cause if you haven't, good. Please stay away. The people there are much more considerate and helpful and I wouldn't want you messing that up.

Snow is too blue/gray for me. the last edit was a bit better with snow, but the dress got lost in it. gotta find a good balance.

lately i been shooting a lot in the snow practicing, first year with a dslr and snow, my first round came out very gray and blue snow. I overexpose about 1 to 1 1/3 to get it right, and even then I have to bring it up a bit in photoshop. snow is a btich, but it's cool (no pun intended) lol

also, put her in a red dress in the snow, it's easier to get exposure right, and it contrasts well, I think anyway.

thanks again for all the comments and examples of your edits. I am redoing the session . Photographing in the snow is difficult lord I know all too well Wish me luck and you are welcome to throw in any advice you may have for the 2nd session

Try to develop a line of "patter" for your subject. I thought it sounded really corny but my wife/assistant encouraged me to try it.. "that's looks good ... yes! ... Nice... Gorgeous! Move your left arm about six inches outwards ... that's perfect!" etc etc. Then I'd stop, look at my screen, flick through the shots while quietly muttering to myself till I found one I liked and I'd punch the air "YES!!.. that is MAGIC!! ... You look better than a top model!" or that sort of thing... It's mostly acting on my part but with the ladies who had never had a photoshoot before it seemed to really help build their confidence and make them smile. Before too long they were starting to relax and I was getting much better shots.
