Took a bit of post to get it where it is now, would like to hear some thoughts on how the picture looks. Thanks!

Thanks. Basically, I had to bring it in to PS, and separate the church and the sky into layers, and bring out the contrast and definition and saturation and all that in each layer individually, then I saved the whole thing as a file and brought it back into Aperture and converted the whole thing into black and white. Sorta complex but I guess not really.

it's a little flat but only just a little

I also would have zoomed in/got closer to capture just the tower or captured ground all the way to the top

instead of doing layers with the same photo, try taking two separate photos with different exposures and use each layer for a rudimentary HDR. you can mask out the portion of each photo you don't want to show. I expect it will be quicker and you'll get more detail in each layer this way too
