Suggestion for a Voting Poll

Actually, my gut feeling is that we bash only one newbie for every several dozen newbies getting much gentler treatment.

No teams, please, because I'm sure i'll be picked last.

Again.

I would agree... do we sometimes bash the "Bought a camera yesterday, hanging out a shingle today" types? YES... sheer stupidity! But most (the majority) get help if they ask for it... It may not always be sugar coated... but it ain't BS either!

Andrew; I think what folks are saying is that we value certain member's contributions more than others.

Some members have more to contribute... knowledge and experience counts for a lot!

Knowledge without experience is basically just that... knowledge... sometimes useless without practical application!

Experience without knowledge... that is doing things that hard way, especially if one doesn't learn (knowledge) from the mistakes made.

Face it you'd always lose the poll - bacon would win and bacon is going nowhere so enjoy the bacon!

Bacon would not be an option in my polls! It is always the sure winner!

I submit that a poll without bacon is not a poll at all; It's a travesty.

That cuz you are a bacon hog.. you don't leave any for anyone else! ;)

How about a poll with non-votable bacon on the side? And some bread, lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise? The heck with the poll... I am getting hungry talking about bacon!

I've fought the bacon before, and have the scars to prove it. Don't question it. Just embrace the bacon.

And yeah for a serious answer I have to back up what Big Mike said - the site has always had a focus toward beginners and to those just starting on their photography experiences. Heck quite a few of our number came here with nothing but a "what camera should I get " thread and look how we turned out ;)

That we tend to have less to offer to our intermediate or advanced photographers to learn or promote is something that I've always felt that we could do better on - however its also a harder area to provide for. TPF is a very generalist site and most intermediate to advanced photographers often tend to start to specialise in their areas of interest. This can quickly mean that they will seek out more specialists sites dedicated toward those interests. TPF can't provide a specialist in every field (I'd LOVE if we could!) but we do very well on generalist over the whole site.

I'd love to do more for our advanced photographers, but we need ideas - we need to hear what you want and what can be done to improve the experience
