Forgive me as I am ignorant of how a gun blast looks in real life, but there's something about the one in #2 that looks kind of fake. Edges seem way too clean. That might just be how they look, I don't know. All I have to go on is what I see in the picture.

So, do re-enacters ever play "what if?" and re-write history or do they stay faithful to historical facts?

EDIT: Damn, I didn't notice until just now that I meant to write #3, not #2.

They try to follow the scene exactly as it unfolded back in the Civil War. I would have added the Union side but they were a bunch of youngin's trying to learn what to do and it was more chaos than acting. Most of the ones I shot wore earplugs and the guy was really more to the side than to the front. Lens foreshortening at work. As to the flash from the barrell, since they do not fire actual balls, you tend to see more flame but I can assure you there is not PS voodoo going on here.

# 3, though I tried to time the shot perfectly, was as we all know as much luck as it was timing. It was loud and smoky with folks running all over the place so I just took a good guess and got real lucky.

we saw Styx years ago back at the Barbara B. Mann hall in Fort Myers, but it juuuuust wasnt quite the same without Dennis DeYoung.

That's how they look. Its a clear example as to why older firearms were so bad. All that wasted energy went everywhere but down the barrel.

Fun fact, that is where the expression "A flash in the pan" came from. Old muskets had a pan where powder was loaded to fire the ball. If the powder ignited with out firing the ball you had a flash in the pan.

I think if given the choice must of the country would be happy to give back Florida

Florida is like any other state; it has its good points and its bad points. Truth be known, they should give most of this country back to its rightful owners in hopes they wouldn't screw it up so badly. If I was to pick a state that needs to go back it would be Texas and all its wacky governors in the last 28 years, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri go next, leveled so the tornadoes can't do much harm, and lastly, North Dakota...just because.

I wasn't super serious. Florida is ok, it just has a bad reputation.

I think the heat plays a big part of it. You look across the world and all the places where crazy **** is happening, its all hot sweaty places. Nothing crazy ever happens in Sweden or Canada, because it's cold.
